Here in BC, people are more likely than anywhere else in Canada to rate their own mental health as only fair or poor. Yet one in five who develop the signs and symptoms of illness cannot access supports or services, and may find themselves at the emergency department or interacting with police as the only and last resort.
Now is the time to take action. We can build a system that provides the right services at the right time in order to avoid crisis, help people recover and keep people connected to their communities.
We believe action in these three areas will lead to better mental health in BC:
- Care before crisis. No one is turned away from receiving the care they need, when they need it.
- Foundations for wellness. Everyone has the essentials they need to be well, like reliable income, housing, and community support.
- Dignity always. Everyone is treated with dignity, compassion and respect, in care and in community.
We can’t do this alone, we need your help.
